RecCollector is a Facebook application through which we can share recommendations between friends.

Challenges Involved

We took up the RecCollector application development after failed attempts by many. RecCollector is developed in .NET platform using the 3rd-party Facebook.NET for managing Facebook session. The integration of the application with Facebook API (primarily PHP based); with our .NET based application keeping in mind the cross-browser compatibility was quite a challenge to say the least. Constantly keeping RecCollector up-to-date with the changing Facebook API is another challenge

Solution

Our development team had to study various 3rd-party applications that interface with Facebook before choosing Facebook.NET. At the time of developing this application hardly any resources were available for developing Facebook Applications. We used database to maintain Facebook users Recommendations. The database design was critical as it had to scalable and compatible with the Facebook changes in future. The main source of revenue for the client is the Ad Space for which we developed an Admin panel to manage Ads.

Process

Our development team had to constantly engage with the RecCollector Business Team to discuss about the changing requirements of the RecCollector application about the design, technologies, browsers that need to be supported. After a grueling two months of our efforts the RecCollector application shaped out to be what you see on Facebook now. Facebook users have been using our application extensively which speaks volumes about RecCollector’s success.
